Milledge, John

lawyer, state legislator, congressman, United States senator, States senator, governor, was born in Savannah, Ga. He , Ga. He served in the Georgia legislature ; in 1780 was appointed attorney-general of the state, and governor in 1802. He was a representative in congress from 1792 to 1802, excepting one term; and a senator of the United States from 1806 to 1809.

He was the principal founder of the university of Georgia, and presented the land which forms its site. He died Feb. 9, 1818, 9, 1818, in Sand Hills. 0
