Bradbury, Theophilus

jurist, congressman, was born Nov. 13, 1739, in Newburyport, Mass. He was chosen to represent the Essex district in congress from 1795 to 1797, when he resigned. He was a presidential elector in 1801, and in 1797 was appointed a judge of the supreme court of Massachusetts. He died Sept. 6, 1803.

BRADBURY, WILLIAM BATCHEL- DER, musician, was born Oct. 6, 1816, in York, Maine. In 1840 he began teaching in New York and Brooklyn, where he gained popularity by his free singingschools, and by his concerts, at which the performers, all children, sometimes numbered 1,000. He died Jan. 7, 1868, in Montclair, N. J.

BRADBURY, WILLIAM FROTHING- HAM, educator, author, was born May 17, 1829, in Westminster, Mass. He attended the Westminster academy, and in 1856 graduated from Amherst college. He is one of the most prominent educators in America, and is now the head master in the Cambridge Latin school. He is the author of Sight Arithmetic; and several mathematical text books. He is the inventor and patentee of a device for illustrating the metric system of weights and measures.

He was a member of the Cambridge city government two years; and for thirtythree years has been a member of the Handel and Haydn society, and one of its directors for more than fifteen years past.
