Babbitt, Clinton

farmer, public official, congressman, was born Nov. 16, 1831, in Westmoreland, N. H. He received a common school education and graduated from Keene academy, New Hampshire; removed to Wisconsin in 1853; is by occupation a farmer and breeder of blooded stock, and resides on his farm, giving his personal attention to that business. He was for several years secretary of Wisconsin State Agricultural society; was elected alderman, and was one of the members of the first city council of Beloit. He was appointed postmaster of Beloit in 1886; was democratic candidate for congress in 1880; and was elected to the fifty-second congress as a democrat.
