Sprague, William
state legislator, congressman, governor, United States senator, was born Nov. 3, 1799, in Providence, R. 1. He was elected to the general assembly; and in 1832 was chosen speaker of the house. In 1835 he was elected a representative in congress from Rhode Island. He was governor of Rhode Island in 1838 and 1839; and in 1842 was elected to the United States senate, serving two years. In 1849 he was a presidential elector; and was a member of the state assembly at the time of his death.
He died Oct. 19, 1856, in Providence, R. I.
