Rayner, Kenneth
state legislator, congressman, author, was born in 1808 in Bertie county, N. C. In 1835 he was a member of the North Carolina house of commons, and the same year was a member of the convention to revise the state constitution. He served again in the local legislature in 1836 and 1838; and was a representative in congress from 1839 to 1845, and a presidential elector in 1848.
In 1846, for the third time, he went into the legislature. In 1866 he published the Life and Services of Andrew Johnson. In 1877 he was appointed solicitor of the treasury of the United States. He died Feb. 5, 1884, in Washington, D. C.
