Mackey, Edmund W. M
journalist, lawyer, state legislator, congressman, was born March 8, 1846, in Charleston, S. C.
In 1873 he was elected a member of the state house of representatives; and was elected a representative from South Carolina to the forty-fourth congress. In 1876 he was elected a representative in the state legislature; and was speaker of the house; and was assistant United States attorney from 1878 to 1881. He was again a representative in the forty-seventh congress, and re-elected to the forty-eighth congress as a republican. He died Jan. 28, 1884, at Washington, D. C.
