Douglas, Beverly B
soldier, lawyer, congressman, was born Dec. 21, 1822, in Providence Forge, Va. In 1850 he was a member of the state constitutional convention; was elected a member of the state senate under the amended constitution, and was a member of that body until 1865. In 1861 he entered the confederate service as first lieutenant in Lee's mounted rangers, of which he was made captain; then major of the fifth Virginia cavalry, army of northern Virginia; and resigned in 1863 to resume his legislative duties. He was elected to the fortyfourth congress as representative from Virginia; and was re-elected to the fortyfifth congress. He died Dec. 22, 1878.
