Doolittle, James Rood

lawyer, jurist, congressman, was born Jan. 3, 1815, in Hampton, N. Y. He was for several years district attorney in Wyoming county, N. Y. He moved to Wisconsin in 1851; was chosen judge of the first judicial circuit of that state in 1853; and resigned in 1856. In 1857 he was elected a senator of the United States for six years. He was a member of the peace congress of 1861; and in 1863 was re-elected to the senate for the term ending in 1869.
