Davis, Henry Eugene

lawyer, soldier, was born July 2, 1836, in New York city. He attended Harvard and Williams colleges, and graduated from the Columbia Law school in 1857. At the commencement of the civil war he became captain of the fifth New York volunteer infantry; rose rapidly through all grades; and was brevetted brigadiergeneral of the United States volunteers.

For three years he was public administrator of New York city, and during 1870-73 was assistant district attorney of the United States. was
