Davis, Garrett

lawyer, congressman, United States senator, was born 'Sept. 10, 1801, in Mt. Sterling, Ky. He was elected to the state legislature, and was twice re-elected. In 1839 he was a member of the state constitutional convention; and from 1839 to 1847 was a representative in congress from Kentucky, and declined a re-election. In 1861 he was elected a senator in congress from Kentucky for the term ending in 1867. In 1867 he was re-elected to the senate for the term ending in 1873. He died Sept. 3, 1872, in Paris, Ky.
