Bryan, George
jurist, state legislator, was born in 1731 in Dublin, Ireland. He was a member of the Pennsylvania state assembly, and in. 1765 was a delegate to the stamp-act congress, in which, and in the subsequent struggle, he took an active part. He was vice-president of the supreme executive council of Pennsylvania from the period of the declaration of independence, and in May, 1778, was advanced to the presidency. In 1779 he was elected to the legislature. He was appointed a judge of the state supreme court in 1780, and remained in that office until his death. He died Jan. 27, 1791, in Philadelphia, Pa.
