Brush, George Washington

soldier, physician, surgeon, state senator, was born Oct. 4, 1842, in Huntington, N. Y.

In 1861 he enlisted as private in the forty-eighth regiment, New York volunteers; served throughout the war, and attained the rank of captain. He received the congressional medal of honor for conspicuous gallantry in an engagement on the Ashepee river in May, 1864. In 1876 he graduated from the Long Island Medical college, and has since practiced his profession in Brooklyn. In 1894 he was elected a member of the New York assembly, and in 1897 was elected to the state senate.
