Brevard, Ephraim
patriot, physician, surgeon, was born about 1750. He was the author of the Mecklenburg declaration of independence. In May, 1775, he was clerk of the convention held in Charlotte, Mecklenburg county, and, as one of the committee to prepare resolutions, produced the famous document by which they anticipated by more than a year the declaration by congress. When the British invaded the southern states, Dr. Brevard entered the continental army as a surgeon, and was taken prisoner at Charleston in 1780. He died about 1783, in Charlotte, N. C.
