Barnwell, Robert
soldier, gressman, was born in 1762 in Beaufort, S. C. He volunteered for the revolutionary war when sixteen years old. He was afterward a member of the convention in South Carolina on the adoption of the federal constitution; and was a representative in congress in 1791-93. He died in 1814. con- BARNWELL, ROBERT WOODWARD, college president, congressman, was born Aug. 10, 1801, in Beaufort, S. C. He graduated at Harvard university in 1821; studied law; was a representative in congress from South Carolina from 1829 to 1833; was president of the South Carolina college from 1835 to 1843, and was a senator in congress in 1850 by appointment to fill a vacancy. After the war he was again president of the South Carolina college.
He died Nov. 25, 1882, in Columbia, S. C.
