Bowers, Stephen
clergyman, scientist, author, was born March 3, 1832, in Dearborn county, Ind. He recruited a company for the sixty-seventh Indiana volunteer infantry in 1862, and did valiant service for his country. He was ordained in the methodist episcopal church in 1866, and attained distinction as a revivalist.
His early love for science led him to accept a position in the United States geological survey, and for many years he was connected with the California mineralogical and geological survey. He has written extensively on scientific subjects, and is now the editor of the California Voice, of Los Angeles.
