Bower, William Horton
educator, lawyer, congressman, was born June 6, 1850, in Wilkes county, N. C. In 1876 he moved to California and remained there teaching till the summer of 1880, when he returned to his native state. In 1882 he was elected representative in the legislature for Caldwell county; and in 1884 was elected to the state senate. In 1885 he was appointed solicitor of tenth judical district, and in 1886 was elected for four years without opposition. He was elected to the fifty-third congress as a democrat.
