Boreman, Arthur Inghram

lawyer, jurist, United States senator, governor, was born July 24, 1823, in Waynesburg, Pa. In 1855 he was elected to the house of delegates of Virginia, and was re-elected until 1860. He was also a member of the extra session of the legislature in 1861, taking an active part against the secession movement. He was president of the Wheeling convention of 1861, to reorganize the government of Virginia. He was elected a judge of the circuit court, and held the office until 1863, when he was elected governor of West Virginia. He was twice re-elected, and was still in that office when elected a senator in congress from West Virginia, for the term commencing in 1869, and ending in 1875. In 1888 he was elected judge of the fifth circuit of West Virginia; and died April 19, 1896, while serving in that office.
