Wilde, Richard Henry

lawyer, educator, congressman, author, poet, was born Sept. 24, 1789, in Ireland. He was made attorney-general of Georgia; and in 1815 was elected a representative in congress from that state. He was again elected in 1823, and again in 1827, serving with marked ability until 1835. In 1843 he moved to New Orleans, La.; and was elected professor of constitutional law in the university of Louisiana. He was the author of Conjectures and Researches Concerning Tasso; but is known chiefly as the author of the graceful lyric, My Life is Like the Summer Rose. He died Sept. 10, 1847, in New Orleans, La.
