Bogle, James

painter, was born in 1817 in Georgetown, S. C. He came to New York in 1836 and entered the studio of Prof. Morse, inventor of the telegraph and the founder of the national academy of design. He executed portraits of John C. Calhoun, Henry Clay, Daniel Webster, Chief Justice Jones, Bishop Atkinson, of North Carolina, De Witt Clinton, and Rev.

Dr. Budington. Among his later pictures were portraits of Gen. John A. Dix and Henry I. Raymond. He died Oct. 11, 1873, in Brooklyn, N. Y.
