Bill, Ledyard
journalist, author, legislator, was born May 14, 1836, in Ledyard, Conn. After receiving his education he entered the publishing business in Louisville, Ky.; and subsequently continued the same business in New York. He resides in Paxton, Mass., except when serving in the legislature as member of that body in Bostonhaving served one term in the house a and two in the senate with the most honorable record. In his native city he has been a power. He started the free public library; it was at his sole expense that the soldiers' monument of his native town was erected; and his name is well and favorably known throughout the state. He is the author of A Winter in Florida; A Work on Minnesota; and A Genealogy of His Family, which is virtually a history of Paxton. He is an enthusiastic antiquarian, and discovered that the ancient bell in the village church of Paxton was made by Paul Revere. He is president of the Leicester Historical society, and a prominent member of several genealogical and historical societies.
