Verrill, Addison Emory

educator, scientist, author, was born Feb. 9, 1839, in Greenwood, Maine. In 1862 he graduated from the Lawrence Scientific school and received the degree of A. M. from Yale college. For two years he remained at Cambridge as an assistant of Louis Agassiz; and since 1864 has been professor of zoölogy in Yale university, and an instructor in geology for twenty-three years. Since its foundation in 1875 he has also been curator of the zoölogical department of the Peabody museum. He was special assistant on United States fish commission in charge of scientific explorations and marine invertebrates from 1871 to 1888. a
