Benson, Samuel Page
lawyer, legislator, congressman, was born in 1804 in Winthrop, Maine. In 1825 he graduated from Bowdoin college; and acquired prominence as one of the leading lawyers of New England. He was elected a member of the Maine state legislature; served in the state senate; and for several years was secretary of the state of Maine. He served with distinction in the thirty-third congress, and received the re-election to the thirty-fourth, and served as chairman of the committee on naval affairs.
