Adams, John Wesley
clergyman, poet, was born May 23, 1832, and is a lineal descendant of the presidents of that name. In 1858 he joined the New Hampshire conference of the methodist episcopal church, and has held pastorates in Rye, Derby, South Newmarket, North Salem, East Canaan, Winchester, Great Falls, Tilton, Newport, Exeter, and Keene. In 1889 he retired from active service, and is now living in Methuen, Mass. He has been president of the trustees of the conference seminary and female college, and has held various positions of honor. He has rare literary attainments, and his poems have been given a place in National Poets of America and other standard works.
