Anthon, John
jurist, author, was born May 14, 1784, in Detroit, Mich. He was a jurist of New York city, and the author of Essay on the Study of Law; and Analysis of Blackstone. He died March 5, 1863, in New York city.
ANTHONY, ANDREW VARICK STOUT, artist, was born in 1835 in New York city. Among his best-known works are the illustrations for Whittier's Snow Bound; Ballads of New England; and Mabel Martin; Longfellow's Skeleton in Armor; and Hawthorne's Scarlet Letter.
