Adams, Stephen
lawyer, legislator, jurist, United States senator, was a native of Franklin county, Tenn., and was a member of the senate of that state. Removing to Mississippi, he took an active part in public affairs; was a member of the state legislature; a representative in congress from 1845 to 1847; was elected judge of the circuit court, and from 1852 to 1857 was a senator in congress from Mississippi. He removed to Tennessee, with the intention of practicing law at Memphis, where he died of smallpox, May 11, 1857. ssman. He
