Wells, Guilford Wiley

soldier, lawyer, congressman, was born Feb. 14, 1840, in Conesus, N. Y. He entered the war for the union as a lieutenant of volunteers, rose to the rank of lieutenantcolonel, and was twice wounded and was brevetted for gallantry on the field. In 1870 he was appointed United States district attorney for the northern district of Mississippi; and was re-appointed in 1874.

The same year he was elected a representative from that state to the fortyfourth congress as a republican.
