Taft, Charles P

journalist, lawyer, state legislator, congressman, was born Dec. 21, 1843, in Cincinnati.

He graduated from the Columbia College Law school of New York in the spring of 1866; in the fall of 1866 he went to Germany, and took a degree at the university of Heidelberg in the spring of 1868.

In 1871 he was elected a member of the house of representatives of the general assembly of Ohio. Since 1879 he has been in the newspaper business and is the editor of the Cincinnati Times-Star. He is a member of the board of sinking-fund trustees of the city of Cincinnati. He was elected to the fifty-fourth congress as a republican.
