Stewart, William H
soldier, lawyer, author, was born Sept. 25, 1838, in Deep Creek, Va. Since 1873 he has been successfully engaged in the practice of law in Virginia. For two terms of four years each he was commonwealth's attorney for the coun-- ty of Norfolk; during 1887-94 was vicepresident and direc-- tor of the Portsmouth Street Railway company; was a director in the Su-- burban Railway company of Norfolk, Va.;. and is now president of the Port Norfolk.
Electric railway, which runs from Portsmouth to Port Norfolk, of which latter city he was the founder. He is the author of The Battle of the Crater, and other works; and a number of articles contributed to current literature. He served as second lieutenant of the Wise light dragoons,. state volunteers; and subsequently the Jackson Grays, confederate army. He fought gallantly throughout the war; and was promoted to lieutenant-colonel.
