Allen, Thomas
lawyer, journalist, railroad president, congressman, was born at Pittsfield, Mass. He was educated at Union college; studied law, and was admitted to the bar. In 1837 he removed to Washington, D. C., and engaged in the printing and newspaper business. In 1842 he removed to St. Louis, Mo. He was a state senator in 1850 and 1854; became largely interested in railways, and was, for many years, president of railway corporations. He was elected a representative from Missouri to the forty-seventh congress. He died April 7, 1882.
