Smith, Nathan
lawyer, United States senator, was born Jan. 8, 1769, in Woodbury, Conn. He was a member of the convention that framed the state constitution; and was for many years state's attorney for the county of New Haven.
He frequently served in the state legislature; and was for several years United States attorney for the district of Connecticut. He was a delegate to the Hartford convention in 1814; and represented his native state in the senate of the United States from 1833 to 1835. He died Dec. 6, 1835, in Washington, D. C.
