Rousseau, Lovell Harrison

soldier, lawyer, state senator, congressman, was born Aug. 4, 1818, in Lincoln county, Ky. He was elected for three years to the legislature of Indiana, and for three years to the senate of the state. He served through the war with Mexico as a captain, and was present at Buena Vista. In 1850 he returned to Louisville, where he subsequently resided. In 1860 he was elected, by both political parties, to the senate of Kentucky. In 1861 he was commissioned a colonel of volunteers; was appointed a brigadiergenera; and in 1862 appointed a majorgeneral. In 1865 he was elected a representative from Kentucky to the thirtyninth congress. In 1867 he was appointed a brigadier-general in the regular army, and was assigned to duty in the new territory of Alaska. He died Jan. 7, 1869, in New Orleans, La.
