Rust, Richard S
clergyman, college president, philanthropist, was born Sept. 12, 1815, in Ipswich, Mass. As early as 1837 he was a lecturer on anti-slaveryin New England. He originated and published the American Pulpit. He was president of Ellington seminary in 1842; of the New Hampshire conference seminary and Female college in 1850-54; in 1858 was elected the first president of Wilberforce college of Ohio, and in 1863 was elected president of the Wesleyan college for Women at Cincinnati, Ohio. For twentyfive years he was field and corresponding secretary of the Freedman's Aid and Southern Educational society of the methodist episcopal church, of which he was one of the founders.
