Purman, William J
soldier, lawyer, jurist, congressman, was born April 11, 1840, in Centre county, Pa. He was a member of the constitutional convention of Florida in 1868, and soon after was elected to the state senate. He was secretary of state in 1868; was judge of Jackson county court in 1868; and was reelected in 1869. He was assessor of United States internal revenue for Florida in 1870, and was chairman of the republican state executive committee in 1872. He was elected a representative from Florida to the forty-third congress, and was reelected to the forty-fourth and forty-fifth congresses as a republican.
