Phelps, Austin
clergyman, educator, author, was born Jan. 7, 1820, in Brookfield, Mass. He was a congregational clergyman of Andover, Mass., and professor of sacred rhetoric in the Theological seminary there in 1848-79. He was the author of The Still Hour; The New Birth; The Theory of Preaching; English Style in Public Discourse; The Solitude of Christ; Studies of the Old Testament; Men and Books; My Study, and Other Essays; My Portfolio; and My Note-Book. He died Oct. 13, 1890, in Bar Harbor, Maine.
