Perry, William Hayne

soldier, lawyer, state senator, congressman, was born June 9, 1837, in Greenville, S. C. He entered the confederate army in 1861 and served throughout the war, being promoted to first lieutenant and adjutant. He was a representative in the South Carolina state legislature; and in 1868 was elected solicitor of the western circuit and served four years. In 1880 he was elected state senator and served four years. In 1884 he was elected a representative from South Carolina to the forty-ninth congress; and was re-elected to the fiftieth and fiftyfirst congresses as a democrat.
