Nelson, Samuel
lawyer, jurist, was born Nov. 10, 1792, in Hebron, N. Y. In 1823 he was made judge of the circuit court of New York, which position he held for eight years . In 1831 he was appointed a judge of the supreme court of that state; and in 1837 was made chief justice, and held the position until 1845, when he was appointed a justice of the supreme court of the United States. He died Dec. 13, 1873 , in Cooperstown, N. Y.
