Nelson, Knute

He was a representative in the Wisconsin legislature in 1868 and 1869. He removed to Minnesota in 1871; was a state senator in 1875-78; was prosecuting attorney of Douglas county for three years; became a regent of the Minnesota state university; and was a presidential elector in 1880. He was elected a representative from Minnesota to the forty-eighth congress; and was re-elected to the fortyninth and fiftieth congresses. elected governor of Minnesota in 1892; He was and re-elected in 1894. In 1895 he was elected United States senator for term ending ending in 1901.
NELSON, RENSSELAER RUSSELL, lawyer, jurist, was born May 12, 1826, in Cooperstown, N. Y. In 1857 he was appointed an associate justice of the supreme court of Minnesota territory; and in 1858 district judge of the United States for the state of Minnesota.
