Moulton, Samuel W
lawyer, state legislator, congressman, was born Jan. 20, 1822, in Wenham, Mass. He was a member of the Illinois legislature from 1852 to 1859; was a presidential elector in 1856; and was the author of the present common school system of the state. He was chosen president of the board of education of Illinois in 1859, and held the position in 1864, when he was elected a representative from Illinois to the thirtyninth congress. He was elected to the forty-seventh congress; and re-elected to the forty-eighth congress as a democrat.
