Mitchell, James Tyndale
lawyer, jurist, was born Nov. 9, 1834, in Belleville, Ill. He attended the Harvard university and the university of Pennsylvania Law school. During 1862-87 he was editor-in-chief of the American Law Register; during 1871-88 was judge of common pleas at Philadelphia; and since 1889 has been justice of the supreme court of Pennsylvania. He is a vice-provost of the Law academy of Philadelphia; and president of the council of the Pennsylvania Historical society. He is the author of A History of the District Court; Mitchell on Motions and Rules; and other works..
