Mell, Patrick Hues
geologist, was born May 24, 1850, in Penfield, Ga. During 1874-77 he was state chemist of Georgia; during 1884-93 was the director of the state weather service of Alabama; and in 1897 was president of the botanical section of Agricultural Colleges association. He is the author of Botanical Laboratory Guide; Climatology of Alabama; Climatology of Cotton Plant; and various other works on geology, mining and botany.
MELLEN, GEORGE WASHINGTON, business man, legislator, was born May 11, 1837, in Hartford, Conn. He is a successful merchant of Great Barrington, Mass.; and during 1896-97 was a member of the Massachusetts state legislature.
