Mcilvaine, Charles Petitt
bishop, author, was born Jan. 18, 1799, in He was the second Burlington, N. J. protestant episcopal bishop of Ohio, and long a prominent figure among low churchmen. He was the author of Evidences of Christianity; Oxford Divinity; The Holy Catholic Church; and The Truth and the Life, which include his chief works. He was the second president of Kenyon college, serving as such during 1833-40; and was the second protestant episcopal bishop of Ohio. He died March 13, 1873, in Florence, Italy.
