Mcdill, James Wilson

lawyer, jurist, congressman, United States senator, was born March 4, 1834, in Monroe, Ohio.

He moved to Iowa and was elected judge of Union county in 1859. He was elected circuit judge in 1868; and in 1870 was appointed and then elected district judge. He was elected to the forty-third and forty-fourth congresses. He was a state railroad commissioner from 1878 to 1881; and in 1881 was first appointed and then elected to fill a vacancy in the United States senate, and served during 1881-83.
