Mason, Stevens Thomson

soldier, legislator, United States senator, was born in 1760 in Chapawansic, Va. He was an officer in the revolutionary war, attaining to the rank of general. He was a member of the Virginia house of burgesses, and a presidential elector in 1792. He was a senator of the United States from Virginia from 1794 to 1803; a member of the convention to frame the constitution of Virginia; and a member of the state legislature. He died May 10, 1803, in Philadelphia, Pa.
