Kirk, James William
journalist, was born in 1848, in Byron, N. Y. He was educated in the public schools of his native city; at Batavia academy; and at the Rockford State Normal school. Early in life he was engaged in mercantile business and school teaching. In 1871 he moved to East St. Louis, Ill., where for twenty years he has been the editor of the Daily Journal, of which he is now the principal owner. He has taken a prominent part in public affairs, and has held numerous offices of trust and honor.
