soldier, was born Feb. 29, 1828, in Jefferson county, Ohio.
He organized the thirty-fourth Illinois regiment; and commanded a brigade at Shiloh, and at the siege of Corinth, on Nov. 29, 1862, and was appointed brigadier-general of volunteers.
