Ketchum, Alexander P

soldier, lawyer, was born May 11, 1839, in New Haven, Conn. In his infancy his parents settled in New York city, which has ever since been his home.

His father was prominent a a lawyer, and for number of years city registrar in bankruptcy of the United States. In 1860 he graduated from the Albany Law school, and at once began the practice of his profession. During the civil war he served as lieutenant in company H, fiftysixth regiment New York volunteer infantry; and was subsequently commissioned captain in the one hundred and twenty-eighth regiment; resigning from the army in 1867 with the rank of brevet colonel. He has served as assessor of internal revenue; collector of internal revenue; and general and chief appraiser for the port of New York.

KETCHUM, MRS. ANNIE [CHAM- BERS], educator, lecturer, author, was born Nov. 8, 1824, in Scott county, Ky.

She is an educator and lecturer; and the author of Lotos Flowers; Christmas Car-' illons, and Other Poems; Botany for Academies and Colleges; The Teacher's Empire; Nellie Braden, a novel; and Rilla Motto, a romance.
