Jenkins, Will D
journalist, secretary of state, was born April 21, 1852, in Pekin, Ill. During 1872-82 he edited and published the Smith County Pioneer of Kansas; in 1882 he was city editor of the Seattle Chronicle, and in 1883 established the Whatcom Reveille. In 1887 and 1888 he mayor of Whatcom, and after the consolidation of Sehome and Whatcom, he was elected mayor of New Whatcom. Since 1892 he has conducted The Champion, a populist paper of Whatcom. He has filled numerous offices of public trust; and in 1897 entered upon a four years' term as secretary of state of Washington. was
