Jackson, Claiborne Fox

soldier, governor, was born April 4, 1807, in Fleming county, Ky. He served as captain in the Black Hawk war; and served for twelve years in the Kentucky state legislature, for a time as speaker. In 1860 he was elected governor of Missouri. He left the state on the approach of the federal army, and was deposed by a state convention. He afterward served for a short time as a general in the confederate army. He died Dec. 6, 1862, in Little Rock, Ark.
