Huston, Benjamin W
soldier, lawyer, state senator, was born March 5, 1830, in Rochester, N. Y. He moved to Michigan with his father in 1836; and subsequently taught school and attended the Ypsilanti seminary for several terms. In 1854 he was admitted to the bar, and since 1855 has practiced his profession in Vassar, Mich. In 1862 he entered the civil war as captain in the twenty-third regiment Michigan volunteers, became major, and served until 1865. He has served as prosecuting attorney; in 1866 was elected circuit court commissioner; and in 1867 was a delegate in the constitutional convention. During 1869-72 he was a member of the Michigan state legislature; was state senator in 1879; and in 1890 was appointed attorney-general of the state of Michigan.
