Henning, David Calvin

HENNINGSEN, CHARLES FREDER- ICK, soldier, author, was born in 1815 in England. He was a soldier of Swedish descent and English birth who served with the Carlists in Spain in 1834, and subsequently joined Kossuth in Hungary.
He came to America in 1856, was with Walker in Nicaragua, entered the confederate army in 1861, and became a general. He was the author of The Last of the Sophis, a Poem; Twelve Months' Campaign with Zumalacarregui; The White Slave, a novel; Eastern Europe; Sixty Years Hence, a novel of Russian life; Scenes from the Belgian Revolution; Analogies and Contrasts; Personal Recollections of Nicaragua; and The Past and Future of Hungary. He died June 14, 1877, in Washington, D. C.
